We began our business with a simple vision. We wanted to provide Classic Jaguar owners with a cylinder head that could deliver 100 horsepower more than the original. When we tested this new head, we found that it lives in an environment with other components that determine what it is capable of. This lead to the development of new induction and exhaust systems, which could extract all of the potential that our head could produce. This will soon get an XK engine up to 360 streetable horsepower.
With that much power and torque, other components need upgrades in order to harness that increase. This lead to a totally new clutch, gearbox and differential. That power needs to actually make it to the pavement so we developed the 18” x 7” alloy wheels. With the new wider and stickier tires, came the need for power assisted steering, which provided the added benefit of a faster steering ratio. We intend to continue developing until we have made each system in the car balanced in terms of performance. We know that the finished product will be of “super car” status – yet faithful to its period, antique appearance.
When one makes modifications to a car, they typically diminish its resale value. This is because the buyer does not have the same confidence in the engineering decisions that a private individual might make versus what an OEM would choose. They also don’t know if the aftermarket parts integrate well with the other systems in the car or with each other. RG is solving this uncertainty by offering what we call an RG SPEC. This means that if one purchases a given prescription of parts for upgrading to a particular level, we certify that the engineering of all these components are of matched performance and properly integrated. Along with following the spec, a car has published performance parameters. RG provides actual dyno test data for engine output when fitted with the parts within the spec. RG will also provide speed, stopping and handling statistics. This way, a future buyer can look up exactly what kind of performance a car, which meets the particular RG SPEC, can achieve.
The RG SPEC will have three categories, SU Appearance, Webber Appearance and EFI Appearance:
• SU APPEARANCE – SU carbs are a bit restrictive and do not permit the full potential of the RG head to be realized. They will deliver about a 90 hp improvement over the stock XK head along with the original cast iron exhaust manifolds. This SPEC is for someone who wants to maintain the original appearance of his car’s engine compartment while getting as much performance they can. This SPEC includes the RG Twin Spark Cylinder Head, Electronic Twin Spark Ignition System, RG/Quaife 5-speed Gearbox, RG/Classicfabs Tuned Exhaust, 18” x 7” RG/Turrino Alloy Wire Wheels, RG/Woodward Steering Kit and the RG/Wilwood 14” Front Brake Caliper Kit.\
• WEBBER APPEARANCE – Webber carbs were a standard upgrade for Jag engines and will deliver more potential, as they will flow sufficient air to warrant the use of hotter camshafts. This RG SPEC includes the RG Twin Spark Cylinder Head, RG Twin Spark Ignition System, a Webber intake manifold, RG Tuned Webber 45 DCOE carbs, RG/Classicfabs Long Tube Headers, RG/Classicfabs Tuned Exhaust, RG/Quaife 5-speed Gearbox, RG/Quaife ATB Differential, 18” x 7” RG/Turrino Alloy Wire Wheels, RG/Woodward Steering Kit and RG/Wilwood 14” Front Brake & Rear Caliper Kit.
• EFI APPEARANCE – EFI is the highest (and most expensive) alternative. This RG SPEC includes the RG Twin Spark Cylinder Head, a special EFI induction system, EFI computer module, RG/Classicfabs Tuned Headers, RG/Classicfabs Tuned Exhaust, RG/Quaife 5-speed Gearbox, RG/Quaife ATB Differential, the 18” x 7” RG/Turrino Alloy Wire Wheels, RG/Woodward Steering Kit, RG/Wilwood 14” Front Brake & Rear Caliper Kit & Master Cylinder upgrade. Each SPEC will deliver predictable performance and reliability for many years to come. This certification will give a future purchaser of an E-type that meets a particular SPEC, confidence that will translate into excellent resale value. All RG Modifications are fully reversible as long as the owner retains all of the original parts.
